Awards for “The Cruelest Cuts” include: The Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award; the ASNE Writing Award for watchdog reporting; The Taylor Fairness Award; the Green Eyeshade award for best project in a southeastern newspaper; a SABEW "Best in Business" award; a National Headliner Award; and a Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. The series was a finalist for the Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting and won honorable mention for the Gerald Loeb award.
Other work has been honored by the N.C. Press Association and the National Press Club. I was a finalist for the Livingston Awards honoring younger journalists and am a two-time winner of McClatchy’s President’s Award.
